Commercial Coal Mining infuses new hope in Chhattisgarh

According to Union Coal Minister Pralhad Joshi, Commercial Coal Mining is an invitation to investors to become a part of vastly untapped Indian coal reserves. The process will make India Aatmanirbhar in Coal, creating huge employment opportunities, accelerating socio-economic growth in coal-bearing states & developing a market-based coal economy.

Reaping the benefits of this government initiative, Sarda Energy and Minerals Limited plans to commission Gare Palma coal mine in Chhattisgarh in 2021 itself, as per PK Jain, Director and Group CFO. Last year, Sarda Energy placed the winning bid for Gare Palma IV/7 with the highest ever premium or revenue share over & above the floor price in the 1st commercial coal mine auction.

Recently, the Adani Group Chhattisgarh, with its wholly-owned subsidiary Gare Palma II Collieries Pvt Ltd, signed an agreement with the Maharashtra State Power Generation Co Ltd (MAHAGENCO) for developing and operating Gare Palma Sector II coal mine. The group has undertaken two more mining projects in Gare Palma I & III.

Under the commercial coal mining auction, Gare Palma IV/7 coal mine in Chhattisgarh saw Adani Group, Hindalco Industries Ltd, JSW Steel Ltd, Nuvoco Vistas Corporation Ltd, Sarda Energy and DB Power Ltd as the competitive bidders.

The government, under the 2nd tranche of commercial coal mining auction, put up sixty-seven coal mines for sale in tune with the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ project. The coal blocks for sale are a combination of coking & non-coking mines with fully and partially explored small & large reserves. These blocks are spread across six states including Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh & Andhra Pradesh.

Chhattisgarh accounts for sixteen per cent of coal deposits in India and the state ranks second in coal production with eighteen per cent contribution to the nation’s total production. It has adopted sustainable mining solutions with private investors like Adani Group implementing green mining practices in Chhattisgarh. Numerous initiatives have been directed by the group towards green belt development.

Adani Group in Chhattisgarh commenced its ambitious integrated mine developer cum operator (MDO) operations with the beginning of coal production at the Parsa East-Kente Basan mine.

They have relocated more than 5,600 trees with a survival rate of above ninety per cent, as well as created an in-house nursery with over 200,000 germinated saplings since the beginning of the project operations. Adding to it, Adani Group mining Chhattisgarh has planted 140,000 native species across 50 Ha of land along with adopting green mining techniques like progressive land reclamation, surface mining & geo blanketing.
