Everything you should need to know about the Toyota Glanza

Toyota has been missing out on all the action in the premium hatchback segment with its aging Etios Liva not having what it takes to compete in the ring. However, after Toyota announced its alliance with Suzuki in India, the latter have given the former the permission to rebadge its Baleno with absolutely no differences between the two cars, barring the names and the radiator grilles of course. The Toyota Glanza brings with it a ₹ 65,000 lower price tag, a significantly better warranty period of 3 years/1,00,000 kms, a frugal mild-hybrid system and of course, the Dualjet engine.

Specifications

The Glanza looks exactly the same as the Baleno with those up-swept headlamps, aggressive-looking bumpers, flowing side profile and of course, the neatly set tail lamp clusters on the hunched rear-end. The radiator grille gets two chrome slats with some more chrome underlining it. Even the diamond-cut alloy wheels are the same. In terms of dimensions, the Glanza is 3995mm in length, 1745mm in width and 1510mm in height. The wheelbase stretches across at 2520mm. The basic trim weighs in at 910kgs. Throttle responses are quite instant, and when the e-boost kicks in from the mild hybrid system, it feels a whole lot more zippy. However, the BSVI Dualjet petrol engine doesn’t like to be revved too much. Performance is more than adequate, and refinement levels are good too. The steering is a lot nicer on the Glanza and the ride quality is impressive as well. In terms of specifications, it gets a 1197cc, 4-cylinder engine that produces 89bhp and 133Nm of torque. Paired to the engine is either a 5-speed manual or a CVT transmission. The engine is also BS-VI compliant.

Mileage

The Toyota Glanza has a fuel tank capacity of 37 litres. In terms of mileage, the manual model is capable of returning 23.87kmpl by ARAI, and 19.56kmpl for the CVT petrol model, in BSVI guise.

Features

Inside the cabin, the Glanza looks every bit like the Baleno, with the same use of materials for the plastics and upholstery. Even the design layout remains untouched. Toyota’s Smart Playcast unit is found on the central console. Up-front, the seats are well cushioned, and there is ample legroom and shoulder room at the rear. Boot space, at 339 litres, is the same on the Baleno too. The top-of-the-line V CVT variant comes equipped with a whole lot of features that include keyless go with push-button start, auto-dimming IRVM, Smart Playcast infotainment system, electrically-adjustable and folding ORVMs, auto climate control, projector headlamps, follow-me-home headlamps, TFT multi-information display, reverse parking camera and tilt and telescopic steering. In terms of safety, it comes with dual front airbags, anti-pinch driver power window, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist.

Colours

The 2020 Toyota Glanza is sold in five shades: Cafe White, Insta Blue, Enticing Silver, Sportin Red and Gaming Grey. The paint quality and finish for all the shades is excellent. We particularly found the Insta Blue to be the most striking of all colours, but the one that’s sure to be a hit among Indian car buyers is Sportin Red.
