Bariatric surgery or weight loss surgery is a surgical method which leads to reduction in obesity. The body mass index of a normal adult should be in the range 19 to 25. If one’s weight increases, then the body mass index also increases. If the body mass index is between 25 and 30, then one is overweight. If the weight is increasing continuously, the BMI i.e. body mass index goes above 30. People whose BMI goes above 30 can also get rid of obesity with medical help. But not every obese person can get obese bariatric surgery. So, it is an important condition for the BMI to be between 35 and 40. Under special health condition, a patient may be allowed to undergo bariatric surgery even with a BMI below 35.
